Professor Sir Keith Porter is a Consultant Trauma Surgeon and the Clinical Director for Trauma at University Hospital Birmingham. He is Professor of Clinical Traumatology at the University of Birmingham. Since 2000 he has been the civilian clinical lead for the care of injured soldiers returning to the UK from both Iraq and Afghanistan and has been a member of the Defence Scientific Advisory Committee and the Surgeon General Research Strategy Group.
Keith has played an integral part of the development of Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine in the UK in his roles as the past Chairman of Faculty of Pre-hospital Care; past Chairman of the Intercollegiate Board for training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine; past President of BASICS and the founder of the West Midlands CARE team.
He has published numerous books on pre-hospital care.
In 2002 Sir Keith was awarded the Queen's golden jubilee medal and in 2012 the Diamond jubilee medal for voluntary work with the emergency services.
Richard is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the Heart of england NHDS FOundation Trust and Prehospital Immediate Care Doctor. He has a specialist interest in healthcare improvement with a particular emphasis on redesign to achieve patient flow utilising in depth analysis of demand and capacity issues.

Dr Matthew Boylan, Clinical Director
Matthew is a Military Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Care. His special interests include: Pre-hospital emergency medicine, management of major trauma, and major incident management. Matthew volunteers his time regularly flying for the Helicopter Emergency Medicine Service and also the West Midlands CARE team where he is clinical director
Mr Andrew Thurgood, Deputy Clinical Director
Andy is a Consultant Nurse with over 25 years of clinical experience in critical care. Andy has enhanced his specialist interest in prehospital emergency medicine to level 8 on Skills for Health. He is registered with the NMC as an Nurse Independent / Supplementary Prescriber and specialist practitioner in adult nursing. He is now working from portfolio at Band 9 (NHS A4C). He has been an active member of the West Midlands CARE Team from its earliest days and is now deputy clinical director for the team. He is also Clinical Director of the Mercia Accident Rescue Service. In addition to his clinical work Andy holds directorships with two companies specialising in medical support for private, military, government and NHS organisations and has authored/contributed to a wide range of medical education reference material. He is honorary senior lecturer for department of General Practice, RCDM Birmingham.
